  1. We are here! We arrived in Panama City safely yesterday afternoon, spent the night there and drove across the country all day today. We are now safely on base. More to come soon! :) --Sra. Howell

  2. We began beach day with a breakfast of fresh pineapple, pancakes, and Panamanian coffee complete with entertainment from a rhinoceros beetle walking around on our table. We piled into a few YWAM vehicles and headed for the black sand beach and crashing waves. Some of us had a great time body surfing, trying typical Panamanian fare (fresh coleslaw, rice, shrimp with garlic sauce, and beans. All of us had lots of fun together.

Jack and Matt knocked coconuts down from trees, stuck straws in them and drank fresh coconut water. We found a few fresh papayas in trees inside the resort where we were, and shared bites of the bright orange fruit. We also stopped along the side of the road and tried fruit from the cashew tree, strolled along the beach and picked up shells and enjoyed each other's company.

A few of the neatest sightings along the side of the road were the indigenous Nube people walking with their children dressed in traditional brightly-colored clothing and people selling parrots that were tied to sticks.

For our evening meal, we all ate Arroz con pollo and ensalada de papa and heard some stories from YWAM staff after the meal. All of the students are rotating for kitchen clean up duty after meals.

Tomorrow, we have painting at the YWAM base and a visit to the boys' home where we will play a soccer game with them.

We have lights out in 15 minutes. More to come!

  3. So far the pictures have not been easy to upload. Sorry about that! A quick update:
Yesterday our day was spent painting outside the new mission building about 10 minutes from the house where we're staying. The kids worked hard and did a great job! We came back to the house to have lunch and after that we drove over to the high school to play soccer and volleyball with the kids who attended there. We even visited some classrooms and talked with the students there. Our group had a great time and were such good sports. Last night some of us watched a movie on a screen out on the patio. It was surreal to be sitting outdoors watching a movie and not being a bit cold (in March!).

Today we went back to the house and painted inside, came back here for lunch (chicken, rice and beans), then headed to the boys' school to check out the farm animals there and play soccer with the boys. All of us enjoyed the time there. Tonight we'll be having a nations dinner with Korean food (of all things, right!)

Tomorrow is our coffee plantation and orphanage visit day, as well as a visit to the touristy town of Boquete. I'm sure none of us are looking forward to the long bus ride back to the city on Thursday or to the long plane ride home, but we'll be looking forward to seeing you when we get back! :)
